Terms of Use
Effective date: June 1, 2025 · Last updated: June 1, 2025
These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of Akarnu — including the web app and Chrome Extension (collectively, "the Service"). The contracting partner is Akarnu (operated by the owner; see Impressum on our website for full legal details).
By creating an account, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
1. Who Can Use Akarnu
Akarnu is intended for professional use — freelancers, independent workers, and small teams. By creating an account, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old.
2. Your Account
Akarnu uses Google OAuth for authentication. You don't set a password with us — your account is tied to your Google account. You're responsible for keeping your Google account secure.
We'll use your Google email address to communicate with you about your account, billing, and product updates. We won't share it with third parties for marketing purposes.
3. What You Can Do With Akarnu
Akarnu lets you:
- Save and organize browser tabs per client
- Create tasks and notes per client workspace
- Switch between client contexts and restore your full working environment
You retain ownership of the content you create inside Akarnu — your tasks, notes, client names, and saved tabs are yours. We do not claim any rights over that content.
We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, time-limited right to use the Service for your own internal professional purposes.
4. What You Can't Do
Please don't:
- Use Akarnu for anything illegal or harmful
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or interfere with the Service
- Share your account with others or resell access to it
- Use the Service to build a competing product
- Use automated tools to access or interact with the Service in unauthorized ways
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
5. Plans & Payments
Akarnu offers two plans:
- Free — Up to 7 clients, no charge, no credit card required
- Pro — Unlimited clients, $7/month or $70/year
Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy, who acts as the merchant of record. When you subscribe to Pro, you are entering into a payment agreement with Lemon Squeezy. Their terms and privacy policy apply to your purchase. Akarnu does not store your credit card details or process payments on its own servers.
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period. You can cancel at any time from your account settings — your access continues until the end of the current billing period.
Small Business Status (§ 19 UStG): Akarnu is operated as a small business (Kleinunternehmer) in accordance with § 19 of the German Value Added Tax Act. No German VAT is charged on our side. Lemon Squeezy may apply local taxes depending on your location and their policies.
We don't offer refunds for partial billing periods. If something goes wrong, reach out and we'll do our best to make it right.
6. Data, Privacy & Deletion
We collect and store the data you create in the Service: client names, tasks, notes, tab URLs, and your Google email address. We don't sell your data. We don't use it for advertising.
For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
Data deletion: If you delete your account, we will delete your data within 30 days of receiving your request. You can request account deletion at any time by contacting support@akarnu.com.
Akarnu is operated from Germany and governed by applicable German and EU data protection law (DSGVO/GDPR).
7. The Chrome Extension
The Akarnu Chrome Extension captures tab URLs and titles to save your working sessions. It only activates when you explicitly use it — it does not run in the background or track your browsing outside of actions within the app.
By installing the Extension, you agree to the Chrome Web Store's Developer Program Policies.
8. Service Availability
We work hard to keep Akarnu running smoothly, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability. The Service may occasionally be unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or circumstances outside our control.
We're a small operation. If something breaks, we'll fix it as quickly as we can.
9. Limitation of Liability
Akarnu is provided "as is." We are liable for intent (Vorsatz) and gross negligence (grobe Fahrlässigkeit). In cases of slight negligence, we are only liable for the breach of essential contractual obligations (Kardinalpflichten), limited to the typically foreseeable damage.
We do not guarantee that tab sessions, tasks, or notes will always be restored without errors. You remain responsible for your own data and workflows.
To the extent permitted by law, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll notify you by email or via a notice in the app. Continued use of Akarnu after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
11. Governing Law & Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. The exclusive place of jurisdiction is our registered office in Germany.
